Colic

From when baby's first few weeks of being born up until 6 months latest baby could suffer from colic. I've been told by women in my family is that when babies are born they may have colic because of trapped air that causes a baby to have discomfort, making the baby cry allot and being really distressed. Few of the signs of colic is when the baby starts pulling up his/her legs up to their tummy and cries allot, also you would notice that baby would have a bloated stomach, feeling really hard.

When i had my son i knew babies would get colic i had the Avent anti colic bottles but since i felt the the teat was really hard for a baby who was also being breast fed therefore i changed the bottles to the Tommee Tippee bottles that got recommended to me by my next door neighbour who's already had good experience with babies already, she also recommended i changed the powder formula to bottled milk formula until 3 month because being a few weeks of being born it'll be too heavy for baby's stomach. At this point my son was getting really bad colic i didn't feel that he burped enough even though there's not an exact amount of times a baby should burp regularly, i did feel it took ages to even get a burp out of him which to me it seemed like he was getting trapped air and he was crying really bad. A friend of mine told me her mum had a remedy that she gave her niece and she never suffered from colic at all. My friend's mum came round and showed me exactly how to do the remedy just with my breast milk and cumin seeds, yes cumin seeds!! Cumin seeds you can get at any Indian shop for 99p a packet. For my son the cumin seeds remedy worked really well i felt it was easier to get burps out of my son, he was better in no time, no really bad cries or discomfort. I only breast fed for 2 months due to getting an infection inside my breast, even though the doctor told me to keep breast feeding I felt like I didn't want to and wanted to wait until the infection had gone until I breastfed again. By the time I went to breast feed again my milk had dried up so my son was on just formula from 2 months. Not knowing that I could do the cumin seeds remedy with the formula milk i got infacol which is also a used for colic.

Infacol is used to relieve wind, colic from birth on wards it has no sugar, alcohol and is colourant free. Instead of giving baby the cumin seeds remedy twice a day, morning and afternoon infacol you give it to baby every feed. I also found this didn’t give baby colic same as the cumin seeds remedy and I used it until my son was 3/4 months. You can get infacol for £2.89p at mothercare.

If you're interested in knowing how to do the cumin seeds remedy i have put a video and instructions to explain the steps below.

Step 1: Put the cumin seeds into a table spoon of either breast milk or formula milk. If you're breast feeding and topping up with formula it's preferable to use your breast milk to do the remedy, if you're not breast feeding your baby then you can use the formula milk.
Step 2: Heat with a candle or lighter until it has boiled (bubbling). Candles make it a lot easier and you're less likely to burn yourself while waiting for the remedy to boil since the lighter does get really hot.
Step 3: You would have noticed that the milk has turned into a yellowish colour. Take the cumin seeds out of the remedy.
Final Step: Give your baby a tea spoon of the remedy twice a day morning and afternoon until baby is 3 months.
